Nokia is developing a smart home platform called Home Control Center, which will be the basis for next generation security systems, smart home solutions and household energy management systems.
Home Control Center… what’s new?
Smart Home is a key-concept for quite some time in planning of houses for future, when lifestyles become more sophisticated and information technology driven. Although there are smart home components available in market, ranging from intelligent environmental systems, energy-saving washing machines, security systems with touch panels, low-energy walls, programmable thermostats, self-adjusting curtains, configurable cable TV set-top boxes and much more... but problem faced with them is consolidation of these technologies under one main system i.e. you end up having a dozen of remote controllers and miles of cables in the living room.Smart home solution refers capability to control everything in the home with a single device, a mobile phone… that’s what Nokia promises with its Home Control Center Solution.
Control home while you move… Remote access software
According to HCC official website, "Home Control Center is a solution based on an open Linux based platform enabling the home owner to build a technology-neutral smart home that can be controlled with a mobile phone, using a unified user interface. Home Control Center supports the most common smart home technologies, including Z-Wave as well as enabling the incorporation for proprietary technologies. Thus, it allows third parties to develop their own solutions and services on top of the platform, expanding the system to support new services and smart home technologies. Home Control Center acts as a dictionary that translates different technological languages so that they can be presented in a unified user interface. Furthermore, the platform enables grouping different physical devices, even from different manufacturers, to be presented for the user in an easy-to-understand way."
The whole HCC solution consists of four main components:
- The heart of the solution is the There Home Control Center, which is built on top of standard gateway architecture.
- Two most important control nodes are the mobile phone and web browser
- The back-end server architecture ensures a seamless and secure link between a mobile device and the home gateway and also makes possible updating and upgrading software easily.
- The partner devices. Value for the end customer comes from the integration of different third party devices and systems under the control of one user interface.
Home Control Center… in nutshell
Above all means, that platform will be based on a Linux 2.6-series kernel that will interact with home electronics via Wi-Fi, GPS tracking systems, GPRS, GSM and Z-wave or security radio. This platform allows third parties to integrate their own smart home solutions and services for use in mobile devices or PC’s and controls all compatible devices in the home either locally or remotely.I thinks that’s really cool and might be one of the greatest inventions… what do you think.
